It might not seem like flea weather with the miserable weather we have been having, but it will probably change suddenly and full Summer will be upon us! Be prepared so that fleas and ticks don't make your or your pet's life unpleasant.
Fleas thrive in the warmer months, your pet can pick them up from close contact with other infected pets, or even from pet rabbits or other animals in the home, they suck blood from the host and can live for up to a year.
To treat fleas effectively, it's necessary to treat all animals in the homedogs, cats and rabbits at the same time, you can use spot-on treatments, tablets or collars. We can supply vet strength remedies which can kill 100% of fleas on the pet within 24 hours and one treatment can be effective for up to one month. Some treatments are also effective against ticks. We stock 4Fleas products from Johnson's and Beaphar Fiprotech Combo. Fleas can also pass on tapeworms, so it's good practice to worm your pets as part of an all round treatment.
It's important to recognise that if your pet has fleas, they will be in the house as well-50 fleas on your dog will mean 1000 in your house. Eliminate fleas in the house using foggers or household flea spray. Wash pet bedding regularly at temperatures above 60 degrees, and vacuum regularly especially under furniture and around pet bedding. Only allow flea-free pets into your house.
It can take time to get on top of a flea problem, but be persistent, check your petsespecially around their rear end and treat them and your home regularly.
